Aioi
“Aioi”
The term is derived from the "Aioi-no-Matsu" (paired pine trees) that grow two trunks from a single root, and has been considered since ancient times to be a word symbolizing an inseparable bond or two resonating entities. These two pine trees are one entity. Though their forms are separate, they live with a single root. This term eventually came to be used as a symbol representing the aesthetic sense of couples, friends, and pairs, and has lived on in the world of waka poetry and art as a symbol of gentle yet strong bonds.
This product is a rice bowl created precisely based on the concept of "Aioi," and its sculptural meaning is only completed when combined with its counterpart, the "AIOI - Soup Bowl."
A rice bowl and a soup bowl. These two vessels, which can be considered the basics of Japanese cuisine, are daringly perceived as "halves," each being a beautiful independent entity, yet revealing the aesthetic sense of a "pair" only when placed together. We entrusted this quiet resonance to the form, creating a state of resonating vessels truly worthy of the name "Aioi."
We gave the form of the vessels delicate ridges, aiming for a modern yet warm, skin-like feel that fits comfortably in the hand. The high-quality texture of the porcelain quietly complements modern dining tables, guiding daily meals into a beautiful ritual.
